Cracked dashboards and faded leather are not inevitable. They are the result of a specific, preventable process.

Park a car outdoors in Miami in July and the cabin will reach well over 140°F within an hour. That heat, combined with direct UV through the windshield, is what dries the plasticisers out of dashboard vinyl and the oils out of leather. Once those are gone the material shrinks, hardens and cracks, and there is no putting them back.
Leather needs conditioning, not just cleaning
Automotive leather is coated, and the coating is what fades and cracks. Cleaning removes the body oils and grime that accelerate that breakdown. Conditioning replaces moisture in the hide underneath. Doing one without the other is why some cars have spotlessly clean seats that crack anyway.
Dashboards need UV protectant, and the matte kind
A quality UV protectant on the dash and door tops meaningfully slows fading and cracking. Avoid the high-gloss silicone dressings, which look wet, attract dust, and produce dangerous windshield glare in low sun. A matte-finish protectant does the same protective job without any of that.
The cheapest thing you can do
A reflective windshield shade. It is unglamorous and it works, cutting cabin temperature substantially and blocking the direct UV that does most of the damage to the dash top and the front seats. Nothing else costs so little for so much benefit.
Humidity is the other half of the problem
South Florida humidity means moisture sits in carpets and padding long after a spill. That is how cars develop the musty smell that air freshener never quite covers, because the source is microbial growth under the carpet rather than in the air. Extraction cleaning removes the moisture and the growth medium together, which is the only thing that genuinely fixes it.
A realistic schedule
Condition leather every four to six months. Apply UV protectant to the dash at the same time. Get a full interior deep clean twice a year, and immediately after any significant spill. That keeps a South Florida interior in good order more or less indefinitely.
